History of Reflexology
The art of Reflexology dates back to ancient civilisations with the earliest evidence from the tomb of an Egyptian physician, dated 2500BC.
Since then Reflexology has been adapted and revised by doctors and physicians to bring us the treatment as it is known today.
In 1913 Dr William Fitzgerald discovered that by applying pressure to certain parts of the body, this would have a numbing effect on another part of the body; he termed this ‘zone therapy’.
In the 1930's Eunice Ingham further developed this zone theory into what is now known as Reflexology. She observed that congestion or tension in any part of the foot is mirrored in the corresponding part of the body.
